I do like Paul Hollywood. I found myself glued to the popular ‘The Great British Bake Off’ TV series, where Paul is a judge alongside baking guru Mary Berry. Paul is, without question a baking expert in his own right. He’s been baking for over thirty years and it shows.
His latest book ‘How to Bake’ is packed full of tips and recipes for baking a variety of breads from your basics through to more challenging recipes such as flavoured breads and sourdough.
I’m inspired by Paul’s passion for sourdough (a type of bread made by natural yeasts), it’s the oldest style of leavened bread dating back five thousand years, according to Paul. I’ll definitely be trying some of these recipes such as the ‘Spitfire Sourdough’ (yes, it does include Spitfire ale) and the ‘Cheddar and Apple Sourdough’.
There are also recipes for baking pastries, biscuits, the perfect puddings and cakes, as well as step by step guides to more challenging techniques such as making your own puff pastry.
My son and I baked the ‘Chocolate, Peanut and Raisin Clusters’, they’re quick to make, delicious, so naturally they didn’t last long. The book has a good variety of recipes for beginners and advanced bakers, and each one is accompanied with a delicious photograph.
Here’s a video of one of his recipes from the book, it’s his Grape and Stilton flatbread recipe, yum!

There once was a baker, Paul Hollywood,
Who was exceptionally creative with food,
His passion for bread,
Means we are all led,
To his book, How to Bake with Paul Hollywood!
I need all the help I can get as a frustrated baker – my last attempt at making soft floury bread rolls ended up with me creating a dough that rose so much it leaked all over the work surface, then I set fire to the parchment paper in the oven, then ended up with rolls that were so hard you could bounce them off the floor – the final indignity was that even the birds wouldn’t eat the crumbs!
Help! I need this book!
Is so far away and can’t buy the book here in Australia! Would love to have a copy
I have just got in to breadmaking, and have so far just stuck to making basic white loaves. Winning this book will provide me with inspiration to try new flavours and types of bread
I know Paul Hollywood only from internet websites and UK blogs. I know that he is amazing baker and I Really want to try and taste his recipes.
For about two years I’m not working, I had to quit my job because of health. Don’t regret this, but sometimes it’s not easy. But because of that I discovered my new love. I’m happy, satisfied and takes the will to live. These are the moments when I’m in the kitchen when I cook and bake. I love knead the dough. Bake breads, rolls, cakes, pies, muffins, …
Even when I have a bad day, I feel bad, there are more health problems – the only thing that improves my mood is to do something good, tasty and fragrant. Something to stimulates my senses! I love the feel between the fingers like dough is formed, when flour is combined with other ingredients. As time passes it changes to other structure. I love to sit next to the oven and watch the dough rise as it changes and flushes. When it’s smells – whether fresh bread, or chocolate, or even butter and vanilla. Then I feel safe. It feels good. With cooking and baking I have the will to fight and not giving up every day!
The one of the most important thing in life is passion, I discovered it in these activities. It is my great love!
Have a nice day.
Best regards from Poland.

Tracey I would LOVE to win this. I love to bake for my family and have recently got into sourdough but I know that Paul is a bit of a king of bread so I’d relish the chance to learn how he does it. It would definitely be going to a loving home and would be used a lot!
Hi Tracy,
I would love to win this book as like you I was also glued to the tv when the “great British Bake off” was on.
He is an expert in his field & his work is straight forward to follow but produce wonderful results, who better to learn from then the best!
Plus I would like to expand my baking range!
Thank you!

Well, tonight my mother told me a best get practising for next year’s Great British Bake-off! Really what I think she meant was that she wanted some homemade bread, but either way, his book would be really useful and I’d love to try making sourdough bread.
Hey tracey!!
My boyfriend Lewis (you I believe you have met) is really into his cooking and has mentioned a while ago now how he would really like this cookbook to add to his large collection of Jamie Oliver books (this book would break up his collection well!) he really wants to get into baking his breads- and what he has done before have been pretty good!
With his 21st is comming up as well as a few special dates for us, and student life means being pretty low on money- so if I can impress him with a few homemade feasts- it would be better than a meal out, and a copy of the book is probably something he thought I’d forgotten about.
He got me into the bake of show, being a frequent viewer and both of us oogled at the recipes which we would love to both try at home!
So glad the business has really taken off- it all looks Great!!
Hope you are all well x x
