Jubilee Street Party Fun.

0

June 5th, 2012

For those of you who celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, I hope you enjoyed the long bank holiday weekend and all the Jubilee activities that took place. Wasn’t it fantastic?

I thoroughly enjoyed our street party which took place on Saturday, and we were lucky that the sun came out and it stayed dry until the early evening.

Alongside the fun activities which were organised ( a bucking bronco, sumo wrestling, Jubilee’s Got Talent competition), I love the simple act of sharing and eating food around a table with family, friends and neighbours.

Here are a couple of pictures I thought I’d share with you, including some of the cakes I baked for the street to enjoy.

Patriotic cupcakes for the sharing table.

A classic victoria sponge filled with raspberry preserve and fresh cream, and finished with Jubilee toppers purchased via Not On The High Street.

A glimpse of the street celebrations.

Until next time…

Happy Baking!

Top Picks: Diamond Jubilee Party Pieces

4

April 25th, 2012

We’re only a few weeks away from the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and I’ve already been organising and purchasing supplies for our street party. I have a feeling that most people will start to buy their partywear a couple of weeks beforehand. I thought I’d buy a few bits in advance to ensure I’m not disappointed.

You can grab some fantastic Jubilee themed accessories for your party, and here are some suggestions from Not On The High Street (NOTHS)*  if you’re stuck for ideas:

Diamond Jubilee Cake Toppers

I’ve just ordered a set of these Jubilee cake toppers, as I’ll be baking a victoria sponge cake for our street party. Don’t they look great, and they’ve included the Queen’s corgis in there too! ;)

Union Jack Flag Cupcake Picks

These cute flags are perfect for topping your cupcakes. I used some similar union jack flags for the Royal wedding street party last year, I’m sure they’ll be a popular sight again for this year’s Jubilee celebrations.

Union Jack Bunting

For those that don’t have any bunting, you really need to get your hands on this party piece if you’re dressing up your street or back garden. There are various qualities out there from the plastic throw away bunting, to the machine stitched cotton with a vintage twist, such as Ruby & Betty’s Attic bunting above.

Very British Partywear

A very British street party indeed. This quirky and fun range of partyware products includes paper cups, plates, napkins, cupcake cases, cake stands and bunting. Perfect for celebrating the Jubilee.

Street Party Teapot

Great for a British tea party or to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in style. This funky union jack teapot with it’s celebratory bunting design is an ideal party piece.

I hope this week’s Top picks has given you some inspiration for your Jubilee party!
