Fun Fridays ~ Chocolate Easter Chicks

1

March 30th, 2012

I have a a big weakness for Cadbury’s Creme Egg’s, so when I came across these chocolate Easter chicks by A Mummy Too, I just had to share them with you.

Have you seen the chick with the red horns, and the chick furthest to the right has a Mohican ( a.k.a Mohawk if you’re outside the UK).

These are so much fun, and A Mummy Too has kindly shared how to make these. For more details please visit her blog here.

Have a great weekend!

Top Picks: We’re going Egg crazy for Easter.

March 28th, 2012

Yes, it’s all about eggs in this week’s Top Picks.

Tips on using them in your baking, egg facts, decorating your Easter Eggs and Eggtastic family gift ideas.

Baking Basics –Eggs

Want to know how old your eggs are and how best to store them? Check out our Baking Basics Egg post for information and other egg tips.

Easter Egg Cupcakes

These Easter Egg cupcakes are baked using a regular vanilla cupcake recipe, and covered with vanilla frosting (tinted green) and piped with a grass tip.

I used a chocolate mould to make the fondant eggs. The imprint from the mould created the bunny and egg decor.  I then painted these with various edible dusts.

A handful of Egg facts

  • Did you know that a large egg yolk contains approximately 60 calories, and the egg white 15 calories.
  • For those who don’t eat eggs then egg substitutes used in baking include; ground flax seeds, flour, applesauce, arrowroot and banana.
  • In the US most eggs are white, whereas UK eggs are mostly brown.
  • Eggs without yolks are called ‘dwarf’ or ‘wind’ eggs.

How adorable is this Easter Pig Egg? This would make a great addition to your Easter decorations. My 3 year old would love to create this.  Now I know what we can make with those spare pipe cleaners. ;)

Easter Gifts

If you’re looking for Easter gifts for the family then have a look at these lovely Easter goodies via NOTHS*.

The fabulous ‘Biscuiteers’ have a beautiful collection of chocolate cookies, handcrafted with bunnies, lambs and eggs. I also love that you keep the tin.

These Easter Egg Kits by Cocopod are packed with chocolate and sweets. The pack contains brushes, bags and ribbons, and they claim to have extra generous portions of sweets to decorate four flat chocolate eggs. They currently have 6 five star reviews, so worth a peek.

I had to show you this Easter inspired Rainbow tree filled with eggs, smarties and raisins. I’ve seen these before for other occasions, they certainly are a present with a difference.

I hope you’ve been inspired!

Until next time…

Tracy
