Top Picks ~ Sweet Treats for Halloween

0

October 22nd, 2012

With Halloween on 31st October it’s time to start thinking about preparing for your Halloween party.

Little T and I have been invited to a party the weekend prior to 31st, and on Halloween I’ll be holding a modest party at home followed by an evening of trick or treating. We have such fun and the children love it too!

I am under strict instructions from my four year old that I must bake Halloween gingerbread cookies (courtesy of Peggy Porschen’s amazing recipe) and that we must decorate them with lots of messy green, orange and black royal icing like we did last year.

Whether you’re organising a small or large Halloween party, there are usually a 101 things to organise. With this in mind I thought I’d share with you my top picks for sweet Halloween treats. I’ve included ideas for those that want to create their own spooky treats, and also hand crafted treats which are available to buy if you’re short of time.

Halloween Cupcake Kits

This ‘Boo!’ Scared you! Halloween cupcake kit contains everything you need to decorate 24 spooky cupcakes including cases, sprinkles and decorations.

This ‘Spooky Fun’ Halloween cupcake kit also contains everything you need to decorate 24 cupcakes including 12 hand made sugar decorations including a haunted house, a witch’s hat, bats, and monsters. These kits are perfect for busy mums who have Halloween parties to organise.

Halloween Cakepop Kits

As an alternative to cupcakes, why not try your hand a baking cake pops and decorating them with everything you need in this Halloween Cake pop kit. This kit contains decorations for 12 cake pops and would look great as a gift wrapped present for your Halloween guests.

If time is short and you’d like to celebrate Halloween in style, then consider this limited edition tin of decorated hand baked and decorated biscuits by the fabulous ‘Biscuiteers’. There are black cats, bats and scary ghosts, witches with wicked stripy socks and a grinning pumpkin in a special Halloween tin.

For those who love chocolate then check out these chocolate pumpkins, hand made from the finest belgium couverture and available in milk, dark and orange flavoured chocolate. It also comes gift wrapped with a ribbon tied  cellophane bag, ideal as a spooky Halloween gift.

I hope these gift ideas have inspired you for your Halloween party. Whether you’re baking your own treats or buying them in for your party, I’d love to hear your party plans for Halloween. Don’t forget you can let me know in the comments box below.

Until next time…

Last minute Father’s Day Inspiration

2

June 13th, 2012

With the Jubilee celebrations behind us, it seems that Father’s Day has been rather overshadowed this year.

There are only a few days left to buy a present, and if you’re stuck for ideas then have a look at these last minute gift ideas from NOTHS.*

Biscuit Dunkability Mug

This ‘Biscuit Dunkability Mug’ caught my eye immediately, and I’ve ordered one for Mr S.

His favourite mug did have a joke on it about fishing ( funny – no, boring – yes) and although the fishing picture has gradually worn away from overwash in the dishwasher,  it now looks like a grey dirty mug.

So it’s time for an upgrade, and Mr S loves dunking his biscuits in his tea. Apparently the designer embarked on a scientific test using biscuits and a stop watch and each stripe represents the results of dunking different biscuits.

‘Happy Father’s Day’ Chocolate Pizza

For Dads with a sweet tooth, how about this ‘Happy Father’s Day’ chocolate pizza. Made with a combination of milk chocolate honeycomb balls, rainbow drops and chocolate curls, and finished with ‘Happy Father’s Day’ chocolate plaque. Be quick though, last orders is at midday on 14th June for express deliveries.

The Real Ale Ploughman’s Pack

For dad’s who prefer a bite of something savory then this Real Ale Ploughman’s pack is a great gift. It contains organic vintage cheddar, country pate’ with shallots,  baby pickled onions, Somerset ale chutney and Brookland’s gold star ale. Just add a fresh farmhouse loaf and you’ll have the perfect Ploughmans.  Order via an express delivery option to ensure you receive it by 17th June.

Until next time…

Top Picks: Mother’s Day Inspiration Part 1

0

March 7th, 2012

As Mother’s Day in the UK is fast approaching, I thought I’d share with you a couple of gift ideas. These are ideal for mothers who love baking and indulging in the odd one (or two) cupcakes. Here is Part 1 of my top picks:

Flower Cupcakes

For those who wish to bake cupcakes as a gift for Mother’s Day, how about these pretty flower cupcakes from Betty Crocker (minus the candles). The flower petals have been made from cut up marshmallows that have been covered in pastel sugar sprinkles. For the centre of the flowers you could use a sugar coated jelly sweet for the centre (this may need a little sugar glue to stick it down). For full details of how to make these click here.

Treat her to a Cupcake Class

If your mum loves cupcakes and would like to learn how to professionally decorate them, then our 3 hour  Let’s Decorate’ course is ideal for mothers and daughters. We have a few places available on our ‘Let’s Decorate’ cupcake class on Saturday 17th March ( shameless plug, I know ;) ). Relaxed and friendly fun is guaranteed.

Baking Gifts

If your mum loves to bake bread then these original Hovis bread tins from NOTHS* would make a lovely gift. They are solid and heavy duty, perfect for bread and would equally look lovely with flowers or herbs in. Click on the image for further details.  Mr S and little T, please take note that I’m putting this one on my wish list. :)
